Design Tools News #42
By Roy  • Issue #42 • View online
Here is issue 42! Some think the number has special meaning. For me, it’s just another edition with some cool resources. I’ve been contemplating giving this newsletter a refresh, in terms of design and content. But no concrete plans yet. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear from you!
Enjoy this edition✌️

Floor plans: Unconventional use of a design tool?
This is a great thread of people sharing their floor plans made in Figma. I’ve done this several times before as well to get a better sense of an apartment’s layout and see how my things fit in. I even used it on deciding where to place a home projector! (Still haven’t bought one though). I find it an easy way of working to take 1px = 1cm (or 1 inch if that’s your thing).
Are you using design tools in an unconventional way?

In video meetings it's a hassle to unmute just to say one word especially if someone else is speaking. I created a video lens that uses hand gestures to show comic-book style messages instead. So far it's been pretty fun!
Gestures for better video meetings
A great and fun demo of how we can make video calls more efficient. Made with Lens Studio from Snapchat!
A quick tutorial on animated textures
Somewhat far away from my type of work. But I still find it really cool to see such short explanation videos on achieving certain visual effects. In this case a simple noise generated layer can be used to create different looking types of fluid for example!
